Dr. Wolfgang Klas is Professor at the Institute for Distributed and Multimedia Systems at the University of Vienna, Austria, heading the Multimedia Information Systems group. Since Oktober 2008 he is Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science. Until 2000, he was Professor at the Computer Science Department at the University of Ulm, Germany. Until 1996, he was head of the Distributed Multimedia Systems Research Division (DIMSYS) at GMD-IPSI, Darmstadt, Germany, and directed many research projects and industrial collaborations in the fields of object-oriented database technology, multimedia information systems, interoperable database systems, and cooperative systems. In 1991/1992, Dr. Klas was a visiting fellow at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) at the University of California at Berkeley, CA, USA. His research interests are currently in multimedia information systems and Internet-based applications. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal Multimedia Systems, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, Germany, and from 1998 until 2005 on the editorial board of the Very Large Data Bases Journal,  from 2005 until 2008 on the editorial board of ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications, ACM, USA. He has been a member and chair of program committees of many conferences.
