Research Lab for Educational Technologies

The Research Lab for Educational Technologies (RLET) is part of the Faculty of Computer Science (Fakultät für Informatik) of the University of Vienna (Universität Wien), Austria, headquartered in the City of Vienna. It was founded on January 1, 2005, in the context of the new university law (UG 2002). The Research Lab is run as a joint effort of the research groups of the Faculty of Computer Science with increasing cooperation and networking with other faculties, centres and universities.

The Research Lab for Educational Technologies conducts research that is aimed at making learning, communication, and knowledge development in technology enhanced environments more significant and effective for the individual, the group, and the organisation. Research covers transdisciplinary topics ranging from interpersonal relationships over visual models of learning processes to the development of open source platform modules that match the users' needs. Research is motivated primarily from experience in academic education, knowledge development and communication. It is conducted in interfacultary, national and international cooperation with scientists from engineering, humanities, and social sciences. It aims at the transfer of results into practice and thus promotes the university-wide strategy towards the unity of research and teaching. Our mission is to contribute to making learning a lasting, meaningful, and inspirational experience for all concerned and thus to lay the foundation for well-informed professional action meeting the ever-changing requirements of today's job profiles and society.
